Ilse Popelier (Gent) maakt werk in oliepastel op papier en vertrekt vanuit een aandacht voor het alledaagse en het vaak onopgemerkte. Zonder hiërarchie tussen onderwerpen, onderzoekt ze spanningen tussen schoonheid en banaliteit, aanwezigheid en leegte, licht en duisternis.
Centraal in haar praktijk staat een fascinatie voor de aanwezigheid en afwezigheid van licht en tijd, en voor de vergankelijkheid van het moment. Naast haar tekeningen realiseert zij tijdelijke constellaties met gevonden materialen en alledaagse objecten, waarin proces, context en temporaliteit een belangrijke rol spelen.

Ilse Popelier (Ghent) creates works in oil pastel on paper, drawing inspiration from an interest in the everyday and the often unnoticed. Without establishing a hierarchy between subjects, she explores the tensions between beauty and banality, presence and emptiness, light and darkness.
Central to her practice is a fascination with the presence and absence of light and time, and with the transience of the moment. Alongside her drawings, she creates temporary installations using found materials and everyday objects, in which process, context and temporality play a significant role.
